MATCON INC.(“MATCON”, “we”, “us”) is a family-run renovation contractor based in Georgina, ON. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit www.matconrenos.com, call us or send us an enquiry, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It is written to meet the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Canada’s federal private-sector privacy law.
01Who we are
MATCON INC. is a home renovation and construction company operating from Georgina, ON, Canada, and working across Durham Region, York Region and Kawartha Lakes. We are the organization responsible for the personal information described in this policy. Our contact details are at the end of this page.
02What we collect
Information you give us. When you use the contact form or the consultation request form, we collect what you type in: your name, email address, phone number, the city where the project is located, and the details of the project you describe (type of renovation, budget range, preferred start, whether you have drawings, and your message). If you call or email us directly, we keep the correspondence and the notes we take.
Information collected automatically. When you browse the site, our hosting provider and the measurement tools described under Cookies & similar technologies record technical details: your IP address, the type of device and browser you use, the pages you view and how long you stay, the site or search that referred you, and, if you arrived from a Google ad, the click identifier Google attaches to the link (a gclid, gbraid or wbraid value) together with any campaign tags in the address.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, payment card numbers, government identifiers or other sensitive information through the website.
03Why we use it
- To respond to your enquiry, answer your questions and send you the information you asked for.
- To schedule and carry out a free in-home consultation, and to prepare a scope, budget and schedule for your project.
- To run the business: keeping records of enquiries and projects, meeting our legal and accounting obligations, and honouring our written warranty.
- To understand how people find the site and which pages are useful, so we can improve it.
- To measure whether our advertising works, so we spend on the ads that actually lead to conversations with homeowners, and not on the ones that do not.
- To protect the site from spam and automated abuse.
We rely on your consent for the measurement and advertising uses, and on the reasonable expectation that we will use your contact details to reply when you write to us. We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not sell it.
05Enhanced conversions
When you submit the consultation form, we may send Google a scrambled version of the email address and phone number you entered so that Google can check, in its own records, whether the enquiry followed a click on one of our ads. The scrambling uses a one-way hash (SHA-256) performed on our server before anything is sent. Google cannot read the original value from the hash; it can only check whether it matches a value already held by a signed-in Google account. Google calls this feature “enhanced conversions”.
This happens only while your consent for advertising measurement is in effect (see Your choices). If you decline, the hashed values are not sent and the enquiry is not linked to a Google account.
06Your choices
- The cookie notice. On your first visit a small notice offers Accept and Decline. In regions whose law requires opt-in consent (the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Quebec) measurement cookies are not set until you choose Accept. Elsewhere, including the rest of Canada, they are set by default with this notice, and Decline turns them off.
- Change your mind at any time. Use the link, which also appears in the footer of every page, to re-open the notice and choose again. Your new choice applies immediately.
- Google controls. You can manage ad personalization in your Google Ads Settings (opens in a new tab) and block Google Analytics in every browser with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (opens in a new tab).
- Browser settings. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear local storage. The site will keep working if you do; the theme and cookie choice will simply reset.
- Talking to us. You never need to use the forms. You are always welcome to call 416-779-5274 instead.
08How long we keep it
- Enquiry emails and consultation notes are kept as business records for as long as we may need them to answer questions about the enquiry, prepare or honour a contract, or meet legal and accounting obligations, and are then deleted.
- Client and project files, including warranty documents, are kept for the life of the written warranty and for the period required by tax and construction-lien law.
- Google Analytics data is kept according to the retention setting in our Google Analytics property, up to 14 months for user-level data, after which Google deletes it; aggregated reports are retained.
- Google Ads conversion data is kept by Google according to its own retention policies.
- Cookie and local-storage lifetimes are listed in the table above.
09Security
The site is served over HTTPS, so what you type into a form is encrypted on its way to us. Form submissions travel from our server to our business mailbox over an authenticated, encrypted connection. The form-security cookie is signed so it cannot be forged, contains no contact details, and expires within an hour. Access to enquiry emails is limited to the people at MATCON who handle new projects. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care with the information you trust us with, and we would tell you promptly if we learned of a breach that put you at real risk of significant harm, as PIPEDA requires.
10Children
Our services are for homeowners and our website is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11Your rights under PIPEDA
Under PIPEDA you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you, how it is used and who it has been shared with, and receive a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Withdraw your consent to measurement and advertising cookies at any time, using the Cookie settings link, and withdraw consent to further contact from us by telling us so. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place, and some records must be kept to meet legal obligations.
- Ask us to delete personal information we no longer need for the purposes it was collected.
- Ask questions or raise a concern about how we handle your information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within 30 days, and we will not charge you for a reasonable request. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (opens in a new tab).
12Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices or the tools we use change. The effective date at the top tells you when it was last revised. If a change materially affects how measurement cookies are used, the cookie notice will ask for your choice again.
13Contact
Questions about this policy, or requests about your personal information, go to the people who run the business, not a call centre.
